Independence day
By Kyle | July 4, 2007
Today is the fourth of July. The day we celebrate our God given independence. Also a day for soberness as we remember the cost of our freedom. A freedom that our great-grandfathers and grandfathers, fathers, friends and now sons and daughters have fought for and are fighting to maintain today.
As I think of Independence Day this morning I can’t help but think of my generation and the next. I am afraid at what will become of our United States in the next generation. Among my age group there seems to be no respect. No respect for elders, for tradition, for country and most frighteningly for God. Respect has been replaced by selfishness. Today’s holiday is an extension of the “weekend” for most people my age. As men and women are being killed in the Middle East, my generation will become drunk. Instead of humble thankfulness to our grandfathers my generation will wake in the next few hours in search of a party.
“Oh God, I say as David said. Do not look on the sins of my generation. Spare us from your wrath. Let this generations remnant be strong for you in the middle of wickedness. Give us respect for elders, for our country and for you, God. Let us raise sons and daughters of respect and holiness. Thank you for rescuing us from selfishness and wickedness through Jesus Christ. Thank you for our country and those who have sacrificed to keep it free. Please save our generation.”
